FAQ
Questions, answered.
We don't sell a generic proposal. We design an all-inclusive experience built around your story. That is why the extra touches and the payment terms stay flexible by design.
Planning & Booking
How far in advance should I book?+
Most couples reach out 8–16 weeks ahead. Custom story-driven experiences benefit from 3–4 months. I do occasionally take last-minute proposals if my calendar allows. Just ask.
How much does a proposal cost?+
Experiences start from $18,000 MXN (approx. $1,050 USD) for a public setting with simple styling and a photographer, and from $25,000 MXN (approx. $1,470 USD) for rooftops, villas, or private settings. Pre-designed experiences are all-inclusive: styling with florals and candles, a bouquet of 24 roses, and one hour of professional photography with 20 edited images. Yachts, villas and haciendas are quoted for your date, because the venue itself sets the cost. The final price depends on your story and what you include. USD amounts vary with the exchange rate; all experiences are charged in MXN.
Can we talk before booking?+
Yes. You can ask up to three questions by WhatsApp, or book a short 15-minute fit call, both free. If you'd like to explore ideas, settings, and vendors in depth and receive a tailored quote, that's the $55 USD Design Session, which is fully credited toward your experience if you book.
What are the add-ons?+
Your package already includes professional photography, styling, florals, and transport. Add-ons are extra touches some couples choose on top of that: a videographer to capture a highlight reel, live music (a violinist, guitarist, mariachi, or saxophonist), extended photography coverage, a private chef, or a special celebration afterward. I quote these individually based on what you'd like, since every couple builds their experience differently.
Do you offer simple proposal decorations?+
Puerto Vallarta Proposals is a full-service proposal planning and experience-design studio, not a décor rental company. Florals, candles and styling can be included, but they are part of a larger experience designed around your relationship. If you only need a standard floral heart, marquee letters or a ready-made setup without planning or personalization, another local décor company may be a better fit. If you want the proposal to tell your story and feel personal to the two of you, that is what we create.
The difference between decoration and experience →How does payment work?+
50% at booking reserves the date and lets me lock in the photographer, florals, venue and vendors on your behalf. The remaining 50% is due 7 days before the proposal. Bank transfer, wire, or Stripe link.
Do you offer payment plans?+
Yes. The second 50% can be split into 2 or 3 installments leading up to the date.
What if I need to reschedule?+
Free reschedule with 14+ days notice. Inside 14 days, I'll do everything I can to move vendors with you.
The Day Of
Can my partner have any food restrictions?+
Of course. If your experience includes a private chef, just send me a note in your inquiry (vegan, gluten-free, allergies, dislikes) and the chef builds the menu around it. If you didn't book a chef, I'll give you a personal list of restaurants that suit your dietary needs, perfect for celebrating right after the proposal.
What if my partner is shy / doesn't like big productions?+
Then you've come to the right planner. My favorite proposals are the quiet ones. We scale the experience to your story, not the other way around.
Logistics
Do you arrange transportation?+
Yes. In the pre-designed packages, transport is included whenever the setting is inside Puerto Vallarta proper. I arrange the private transfer from where you are staying to the setting and back, and it is already covered by the price you see. Settings outside Puerto Vallarta, such as Nuevo Nayarit, Bucerias, Sayulita or Cabo Corrientes, are quoted separately before anything is confirmed.
Is transportation included outside Puerto Vallarta?+
No. Transportation is included only when the setting is inside Puerto Vallarta proper. Nuevo Nayarit, Bucerias, Sayulita, Cabo Corrientes and anywhere else outside the city are quoted separately, and you see that amount in writing before anything is confirmed.
Do I need to be a hotel guest somewhere?+
No. I work with couples staying anywhere from boutique hotels to vacation rentals to nothing at all.
What if we're flying in just for this?+
I help with hotel recommendations and a soft itinerary for the days around it.
Do you work with same-sex couples?+
Absolutely yes. Many of my favorite proposals.
Can you coordinate dinner afterward?+
Yes. Dinner is included in the private-setting experiences and can be coordinated for any experience. If you want family or friends waiting nearby after the yes, I coordinate that too, timed so nothing gives the surprise away early.
Can you arrange a yacht, villa, rooftop or private venue?+
Yes. Beach, rooftop, private terrace, garden, Río Cuale, yacht, villa and hacienda settings are all part of what I plan. Private venues and yachts sit in the higher range because you are paying for privacy and exclusivity, and I quote them for your date.
Can you help me choose where to propose?+
That is a large part of my job. Most couples arrive without a location in mind. I recommend settings based on your style, your date, your budget, how private you want it and what is realistic logistically that week.
Photography & Extras
Is photography included?+
Yes, in the pre-designed experiences. Both the $18,000 MXN and the $25,000 MXN experiences include one hour of professional photography with 20 chosen and professionally edited photos, delivered within 15 days. You never pay a separate photographer fee on top of those. For a fully custom experience, photography is quoted with the rest of your plan.
Can I upgrade the photographer or the coverage?+
Yes. Extended coverage beyond the included hour, additional edited images or a second shooter are upgrades on top of what your experience already includes, and I quote them individually.
Is video included?+
The $25,000 MXN experience includes a 30-second reel. A full videographer is an add-on for any experience and is quoted separately.
Can you arrange live music?+
Yes. A violinist, guitarist, saxophonist or mariachi can be added to any experience and is quoted separately.
Why can pricing change depending on availability?+
Pre-designed package pricing is built around a specific setting and a specific creative team, and depends on their availability for your date. If they are booked, I source the best alternatives and show you the options and pricing before anything is confirmed. No price changes without your approval.
Can I choose an existing experience and still personalize it?+
Yes. The pre-designed experiences are frameworks, not scripts. The setting and the creative team are set; the story inside them is built around your relationship.
Surprise & Weather
How do you keep the proposal a surprise?+
We agree on a cover story for the evening and everything I send you fits it. Arrival time, transport, the setup finished before you get there, and no paper trail in your room. I have done this many, many times, and your partner should not suspect anything until you want them to.
Will my partner notice the photographer?+
I never hide the photographer. We build a second story that makes the camera make sense, such as a couples session, a gift from the hotel or sunset photos, so your partner sees a photographer and thinks nothing of it. That lets the photographer stand where the light and the angle are best, so the images read like a partner session instead of shots taken from cover. They are already in place and know the signal for the moment you kneel.
What happens during rainy season?+
Puerto Vallarta's rainy season runs roughly June through October, and proposals absolutely happen in those months. I plan them differently: I recommend the most weather-resilient setting for your month from the start, then flexible timing, forecast monitoring in the days before, and a contingency option wherever the setting allows. I cannot promise weather, but you will never be standing there without a plan.
Are there backup locations?+
Wherever the setting allows it, yes. For outdoor experiences I choose settings with a realistic alternative or shelter nearby, and we confirm together in the days before based on the forecast.
About Olivia Ortiz
Do you plan weddings or other events?+
I don't plan weddings or other events, and that focus is deliberate. The proposal is the one moment I have spent twelve years perfecting. That said, I know the wedding world personally: I planned my own spiritual wedding in the Dolomites in Italy in 2022, and my husband and I married civilly in 2025. So if a wedding is your next step, I offer my couples a 45-minute conversation on where to begin, plus my personal list of trusted recommendations: wedding planners, venues, photographers, videographers, and more. I help you start. I just don't plan the wedding itself.
Are you bilingual?+
Yes, Spanish and English, fluently.
