LGBTQ+ proposals in Puerto Vallarta

Open, private, or somewhere in between

We plan proposals for LGBTQ+ couples the same way we plan every proposal: starting from your story.

Yes, this is something we offer, and many of my favorite proposals have been exactly that. Puerto Vallarta is one of the most welcoming places in Mexico for queer couples: you can walk to the moment holding hands, kneel on a beach, and hear the yes without a single glance over your shoulder.

What every proposal includes

The same planning, for every couple.

Florals and styling

Styling with florals and candles designed for the setting, plus a bouquet of 24 roses. Setup and breakdown are on me, so you walk into something already finished.

Photography

One hour of professional photography with 20 chosen and professionally edited photos, delivered within 15 days. It sits inside the planning, never as a separate fee.

Food and celebration

I help you book dinner or the celebration after the yes, and coordinate the timing so nothing reveals itself early. What your package covers is written into your quote.

Transportation

In the pre-designed packages, transport is included whenever the setting is inside Puerto Vallarta proper. I arrange the private transfer from where you are staying to the setting and back. Settings outside Puerto Vallarta, such as Nuevo Nayarit, Bucerias, Sayulita or Cabo Corrientes, are quoted separately before anything is confirmed.

The extra details you chose

Live music, video, extended photo coverage, a second shooter, a private chef. I coordinate all of it inside the same planning, and each one is quoted on top of what the package already covers.

How it works for you

Nothing about your story needs an asterisk.

Four things I hold onto when I plan for a queer couple, because they are the ones that decide whether the day feels like yours.

01

Open or private, you choose

Some couples want a public beach in the Zona Romántica with people cheering them on. Others want a villa where only the two of you know what is coming.

Both work here, and the choice comes from what you want, not from what you have to avoid.

02

A team that treats you the same

I choose the photographers, florists and musicians I work with partly for how they treat every couple.

Nobody at the setup should make you explain yourselves or read the room. You arrive, and for everyone working it is just a normal day.

03

Your people are the family

Chosen family often weighs more than blood relatives, and I plan around that.

If the people who should be there are your closest friends, we build the day around them: who is in on the secret, who arrives when, and how the surprise holds until the moment.

04

The photos stay yours

Tell me if you would rather your photos stay out of the gallery and off social media, and they do.

Some couples want their story published, some want it kept between us. Both are fine, and the choice is made once, in writing, before anything is photographed.

Everything you need to know

The honest notes, before you book.

01

Where the queer part of the city lives

The Zona Romántica is the LGBTQ+ area in southern Puerto Vallarta: Playa de los Muertos with its pier, Olas Altas and the smaller Las Amapas beach, plus the bars, restaurants and hotels that have served this community for decades. It is walkable, and it makes a natural home base for a proposal.

02

What public affection looks like here

Same-sex couples hold hands and kiss in the Zona Romántica without anyone reacting, and the malecón and most of the bay are just as relaxed. Mexico is a big country with conservative corners outside the tourist areas, so if a plan of ours takes you into one of them, I will tell you where I would keep a lower profile.

03

Vallarta Pride usually lands in late May

The city's pride week fills the streets with events and brings people in from all over the Americas. If you want your moment inside that week, tell me early: dates, photographers and venues fill up fast.

04

If you want to get married afterwards

Same-sex marriage is legal across Mexico: the last state to change its rules did it in October 2022, and Jalisco, the state Puerto Vallarta sits in, has allowed it since 2016. There are two paths, a civil ceremony at the Registro Civil or a symbolic one. Most couples handle the legal paperwork at home and use Mexico for the celebration, because a marriage is easier to register where you live and easier to unwind there too. For a civil ceremony here, foreign documents such as birth certificates have to arrive apostilled and translated by an official translator in Mexico, plus a medical certificate done locally, and every office asks for slightly different paperwork, so confirm with the Registro Civil where you plan to marry. I plan proposals, not paperwork, but I can connect you with people who do run ceremonies.

05

The surprise machinery is the same

The cover story, the photographer with a reason to be there, the timing so nothing reveals itself early. Being a queer couple does not change how the logistics work, and it should not.

06

The pricing is the same for every couple

Pre-designed experiences start at $18,000 MXN (approx. $1,050 USD) with styling, a bouquet of 24 roses and one hour of professional photography. Private and exclusive settings usually start at $25,000 MXN (approx. $1,470 USD). Villas and haciendas are quoted for your date, because the place itself sets the cost.

Couple during their proposal in Puerto Vallarta

A real one

“Olivia was absolutely wonderful! She took the time to find out who we were as a couple and developed an amazing proposal based on us. She made sure the details were all taken care of so I could be in and enjoy the moment. She was able to keep the surprise and ensure that our night was so special. If you are looking for something special, call Olivia!”

Questions

Asked before you say the question.

Do you plan proposals for LGBTQ+ couples?+

Yes, and many of my favorite proposals have been exactly that. The process, the pricing and the settings are the same as for anyone else: I start with your story and design from there.

Is Puerto Vallarta safe for a public proposal as a same-sex couple?+

In the Zona Romántica and along the malecón, visible affection is normal and nobody turns around to look. A beach proposal with people nearby is met with cheering rather than staring. Outside the tourist areas Mexico does have conservative corners, and I will tell you honestly where I would keep a lower profile for your plan.

Is same-sex marriage legal in Mexico?+

Yes, across the whole country since 2022, and in Jalisco since 2016. Mexican law only recognizes civil marriages, so a symbolic ceremony is not a legal one. Plenty of couples register the marriage at home and hold the ceremony here.

Can we keep our photos out of your gallery and social media?+

Yes. Tell me before the shoot and your images stay private. Some couples want their story published and some do not, and both choices are respected the same way.

Can you plan the wedding too?+

Proposals are the only thing I plan, which is why the network I have built is proposal shaped. I can coordinate what comes right after the yes: dinner, a private chef, a small brunch the next morning. For a full ceremony I can point you to officiants, venues and wedding planners I trust.

Do we have to explain anything to the vendors?+

No. The people I work with are chosen partly for how they treat every couple, so you should not have to brief anyone, correct anyone, or manage the room.

Tell me all of it.

The names, the inside jokes, the people who should be there, the part you are nervous about. That is where the design starts.
